THATCHER ISLAND Views
Just offshore from Long Beach lies beautiful Thacher Island, a small, rocky island steeped in New England maritime history and home to its famous Twin Lighthouses. Known as the Cape Ann Light Station, these two impressive granite towers stand 124 feet tall and have guided ships safely along the rocky Massachusetts coastline for generations. Originally established in 1771, the current lighthouses were built in 1861 and are recognized as a National Historic Landmark. They are also the only operating twin lighthouses in America.
One of the most memorable features of Long Beach is the spectacular view of these historic lighthouses rising above the distant ocean horizon. From the sandy shoreline, and especially from an ocean-view balcony, you can enjoy a beautiful coastal panorama with the twin towers standing proudly against the blue Atlantic sky. The view is particularly breathtaking at sunrise, when the first rays of sunlight appear between or just beyond the lighthouses, creating a picture-perfect New England coastal scene.
Whether you’re enjoying your morning coffee, taking a peaceful walk along the beach, or watching the changing colors of the sky as the sun rises over the ocean, the sight of Thacher Island adds a special charm to your stay. It’s a beautiful reminder of Cape Ann’s rich seafaring heritage and one of the many things that makes Long Beach such a memorable seaside destination. Interested in venturing out to the Island?
